WebTrace is a web-based tracking
and tracing portal that allows users to get more
information about the origin of lot IDs via the
internet. Purchased goods carry a unique barcode,
lot ID or EAN code. Consumers can enter that code
in WebTrace and find out about the history of
the food products they just purchased at the supermarket.
Cross-database T&T
WebTrace is an easy step towards
fully-fledged supply chain traceability. Companies
decide which data they want to make public about
the ins and outs of their process; the link between
the databases of the consecutive players in the
food supply chain can be established by means
of the unique EAN code, which identifies the supplier
& product lot ID:
The consumer enters a barcode
or lot ID.
WebTrace searches the supermarket
webbase and displays public lot ID information.
The supermarket database
links to the supplier's webbase (based on the
EAN code) to get more data about the manufacturing
process.
The supplier's webbase links
to the grower'swebbase (again EAN) to get more
information about the culture.
